"We've maxed out the HD channel that our operators have provided to us," MASN spokesman Todd Webster said. "This is a big increase over last year, and sports fans are sure to be excited."
Every major cable and satellite provider in the D.C. area, except for Dish Network, will offer MASN HD.
When the Orioles and Nationals play at the same time, one team will be shown in high definition and the other in standard definition on MASN or MASN2. Webster said each team is guaranteed an equal number of HD games, but preference each night generally will be given to the most compelling matchup.
The Yankees and Red Sox are scheduled to appear 21 times each on MASN HD, while the Phillies will appear 19 times and the Mets will appear 12 times.
The Nationals' television schedule also includes 20 games to be broadcast on DC50, which will be simulcast on MASN. The Orioles have a similar arrangement with WJZ-13.
MASN's Baseball coverage will have some new wrinkles this season, including new broadcast graphics. The network will present its "Nats Xtra" and "O's Xtra" pregame and postgame shows on location inside Nationals Park and Oriole Park and will introduce a new X-Mo camera to pick up slow-motion replays in HD. The camera is similar to the one NBC used in its coverage of the Super Bowl earlier this month.
