Nationals Embarrassement
Apr. 26, 2009 (Baseball Musings delivered by Newstex ) --

Via Nationals Journal, Filip Bondy gives a proper tongue lashing to Elijah Dukes in particular and the Washington Nationals in general. They come up short in comparison to the Marlins :

But the Nats are the Nats. They may be Bud Seligs greatest enduring embarrassment, not involving steroids, uniquely incompetent and unsympathetic. They have a new stadium in the nations capital, the result of long-term blackmailing. Theyre owned by a billionaire, Ted Lerner. Their ex-GM, Jim Bowden, has been investigated for skimming bonus money.

The Florida Marlins , who come next into Citi (NYSE:C) Field, have done a lot with a $38 million payroll. The Nationals have done little with $60 million. Arguably, the franchise has yet to recover from that aborted 1994 season, when the first-place Expos might have won a title and established a permanent base in Montreal.

Instead, the Nationals now tour the major leagues in generic-looking uniforms, making other teams feel good about themselves.

They lead 4-1 going to the fifth today. They havent won on the road since September of 2008.
