Giants fans stood and cheered after Ryan Zimmerman grounded into a fielder's choice in the ninth inning. His hit streak had ended at 30 games.
"We want to thank the Giants' fans," Nationals manager Manny Acta said. "I thought that was very classy. You don't get that everywhere you go. It was outstanding that everybody acknowledged the streak." "It was special," Zimmerman said. "Anytime you can get people telling you 'Good luck,' people cheering you on the road, it means something."
Zimmerman went 0-for-3 with two walks, one intentional in the seventh inning - ordered by manager Bruce Bochy after Barry Zito 's wild pitch opened first base. Neither Acta nor Zimmerman had a problem with it.
"Nothing bad intended. I would've done it myself," Acta said.
REMEMBER MARTIS? Nationals starter Shairon Martis was extra motivated Wednesday because he was facing the team that traded him. The Giants sent Martis to the Nationals in July 2006 for reliever Mike Stanton .
"It was fun for me. It was my old team, so I kind of gave everything I've got to beat them," said Martis, who limited the Giants to two hits in seven innings and has five wins on a team that has 11.
Martis was 19 at the time of the trade, which came shortly after he threw a no-hitter for the Netherlands in the first World Baseball Classic.
